Genesis grew up in the small town of Banora as a farmboy to rich parents. Though his parents are not his own, and he now knows this, they treated him as a son, and made sure that he had absolutely everything that he could ever possibly want.

This was most likely where Genesis gained his vanity. He had everything, except the thing that most vain people want, friends. There was one boy in the town besides him that paid attention to him, looked out for him, and was like a brother to Genesis. Not to mention he was always welcome over at Angeal's house for a visit. It wasn't long before Genesis had enough of this lifestyle, a city-boy at heart. He left his apple juice business and his parents behind, and moved to a larger town, Midgar.

He had dreams of becoming a SOLDIER like those that he idolized, and Genesis was lucky that his childhood friend chose not to abandon him, but instead follow right behind to help him obtain that which he wanted most. He studied hard in all of his classes, gained interest in particular stories, and even began writing his own interpretations. While in required training, he excelled in magics, and reached even higher levels in weapons use.

It wasn't until he made it in his career as a fully-recognized SOLDIER that he began to notice differences between himself and others. His mind began seeing things in a new light, and he changed, once he learned the truth about his parents and about his existence. He was never what he thought he was. It took near death to teach him that, from a scientist he considered a friend.

So he fled from his home in the city, taking on a new challenge of studying to find out what he was, and exploring the differences in what he had become. His wing for one, as well as his clearer state of thought.
